Crowded teeth can result in a wide variety of problems, from painful jaw joints to difficulty keeping all tooth surfaces clean. It’s natural to want to give those teeth space and bring them into alignment. Byte claims their aligners can resolve mild-to-moderate cases of crowding and spacing — but does the experience of actual customers support this?
Check out the authentic customer reviews below covering their experiences using Byte for teeth crowding.
Smile Prep offers readers a small financial incentive in exchange for their unbiased reviews. I chose Byte because it was the cheapest option, but they aren’t as good as they claim to be. In hindsight, I wish I had went with a different company because my treatment took more than twice as long as it was supposed to and my teeth never moved all the way into correct position. To add more to my issues, the customer service is painfully slow at getting back to you. For a treatment claiming to be fast, it’s not going to be fast when the company takes up to a whole week to respond to your request for help. If you’re considering Byte, see if your insurance will cover it (mine didn’t). If not, don’t waste your money on them.
Helpful?Sarah B.Bellingham, WA2 years agoCrowdingMidlineI decided to get aligners because I’ve always been self conscious of my teeth. People would tell me my teeth “weren’t that bad ” but I never felt confident. After getting the aligners I’ve felt so much better! My teeth are straight and I look back at old pictures and see that my smile was crooked and I feel really happy with my decision.
The customer support was good. I need more adjustments after finishing my initial treatment, and they were always really great about getting back to me in a timely manner. I would 100% recommend Byte!
Helpful?Tessa O.NJ2 years agoCrowdingCrossbiteI decided to go with byte because they had the best guarantee that if the treatment Didn’t work they will issue a refund. Their intro box offer also came out to be the cheapest. So far along the way customer service has been super helpful. I had a problem halfway through my treatment with the aligners the roof it as well as the shed and I was able to submit a request to restart. It was covered and I do not have to pay an additional fee. I’m in the process of working on this new set of aligners now.
Helpful?Brittany W.United States2 years agoCrowdingSpacingAfter failing to wear my retainer as a teenager, I decided to purchase clear aligners for another chance at having straight teeth. Overall, my teeth weren’t really that bad, but the crowding in the bottom made flossing and cleanings at the dentist painful. I chose this company after hours of research because of the amount of positive experiences I read about and the byte for life guarantee. The company did not meet my expectations. Once receiving my aligners, I haven’t really been contacted at all to check on my progress and wasn’t given any instructions on “checking in” with Byte. The company could do a better job of providing patients with what to do after receving aligners. I believe it also very unrealistic that most patients can switch aligners each week. I’ve had to wear some aligners 3+ weeks. Customer support isn’t the greatest.
I’m almost 2 years into treatment that was supposed to be a 12 week plan. I’ve had to do “refinements” twice. Refinements are when you have to send in a new impression and they make you more/different aligners. The impression kit was fairly easy to understand, getting great impressions the first time was impossible for me and quite the struggle the second time. I believe my first set of aligners were made with “bad” impressions.
My advice for anyone considering aligners is go to your local dentist/orthodontist and opt for Invisalign. I know it can be more expensive, especially if you need extensive adjusting, but at least that way you know you’re getting aligners made from a good impression, don’t have to worry about damaging your teeth/gums, and a professional to regularly oversee treatment.
Helpful?Kerri R.Shipman2 years agoCrowdingSpacingTooth GapI decided to purchase clear aligners because I was hoping to correct my crowding on my bottom teeth and spacing on my top teeth. I chose Byte because they had the lowest price in the shortest amount of time. I also chose Byte because of their smile guarantee. The impression kit was a bit uncomfortable, but I was able to make the impressions without issues. Customer support was great throughout my journey and my questions were answered promptly and professionally. I am very pleased with my Byte journey and would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t feel 100% about their smile. I am very excited to be completed with mine in just 3-4 weeks!
Helpful?Alessandra M.Long Beach, CA1 year agoCrowdingThis was the most affordable option I’ve seen ($1800) which was awesome. I like that I can go at my own pace. I definitely cannot change them as quickly as once per week tho so I feel a little cheated on that front. I was told I have “stubborn teeth” but it feels more like there’s some issues with the braces being able to grip certain teeth or perhaps have more steps to ensure that movement can happen because I’ve been stuck in certain retainer sets for 4 weeks.
I had significant crowding in my bottom teeth and some crowding in my top teeth. It’s clear from looking at what my last set of retainers looks like that my teeth will still not be perfectly straight once I’m done which wasn’t very clear when the sent the 3D animation of what my progress was going to look like. My brother had to get 4 teeth removed when he had braces to make space for his teeth so I wonder if I needed that however this info was never shared with me, which would have been nice
Helpful?Max H.Asheville, NC2 years agoCrowdingSnaggletoothOverbiteI had waited for years until getting aligners, it was always on my to do list but never completed. I took the jump because I had always been so self conscious of my smile and wanted to see if invisible aligners would even work for me.
The mold process was easy with a little help from my girlfriend. After about a week byte sent me a 3D rendered treatment plan that showed me how my teeth would move, step my step. The plan was that it would take 18 weeks for perfectly straight teeth. Unfortunately my bottom teeth and my snuggle tooth didn’t want to move. This wasn’t a problem with byte’s smile guarantee. Customer service were fantastic in helping with this. After 15 weeks they checked in on me and noting I wasn’t where I needed to be, they sent me a new mold kit. I have a revised set of aligners for another 15 weeks to get my full results but I am happy with the results so far and it has definitely helped with my self confidence.
I feel I made the best decision going with byte and I’d advise anyone using them to stick with the treatment plan. Use the hyperbyte often and you’ll see the results you want. If you’re a bit behind, they will help you out the best they can.
Helpful?Charla F.Thomasville, Georgia1 year agoCrowdingI wore braces as a teen but failed to continue to wear retainers. My bottom teeth were misaligned and I had begun to rub my tongue across them to the point it was becoming annoying. After researching aligners I chose Byte based on reviews and the fact that they had a nighttime only option. I did not want to wear aligners while teaching school. The impression process went well and I received aligners in a few weeks. After the first box of 15 sets I completed a treatment analysis and Byte asked for more impressions. After those I received a second box of 15 sets. I’m now finishing up the second box. My treatment is lasting longer than first expected but that has been my choice. Instead of wearing each set a week I have been wearing each set for several weeks. I’m not in any hurry and have felt like wearing them longer has helped “cement” the movement better. Their customer service has been responsive, but response times have been rather slow, taking a week or so to get a response. They have informed me that my treatment will continue until I am satisfied. I am completely satisfied with the top teeth, which needed very little movement, but my bottom tooth that was misaligned still needs work. I anticipate them asking me for more impressions and sending me more sets of aligners. Once I request my first set of retainers, I have been told that they will no longer make any adjustments. So far I am satisfied. I would recommend Byte.
Helpful?Kate P.Philadelphia, PA2 years agoCrowdingSnaggletoothI had gone through the invisalign process as a teen and had a really negative experience (the cement bumps and tooth shaving were havoc on my enamel). Flash forward to adulthood and I still wanted straight teeth but it was a pandemic and I didn’t feel comfortable with someone’s hands in my mouth. I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews and Byte seemed to be the best balance of straight teeth and affordable treatment, plus they were waiving fees on impression kits, so it seemed pretty low risk. The kit delivery was delayed and there were a few issues of packages saying they had been delivered when they hadn’t. The customer service team was pleasant and helpful, but a little slow to respond.
Fortunately I didn’t end up needing much assistance or that would have become quite frustrating for me. The impression kit was well packaged and easy to use, the provided impression tray felt too narrow for my mouth, but it didn’t impact my overall treatment. If you have a wider palate, they do offer larger tray sizes upon request, but they’ll make you try the standard one first. After repackaging and returning the impression kit, you’ll hear back from a smile advisor who will send a 3d model of how your teeth will progress through treatment and how long treatment will take.
It is worth noting that my treatment plan did not perfectly straighten every tooth–if this is your goal, I’d say it’s worth visiting an orthodontist in person–but it did adjust all major and cosmetic issues. The 3d model was also a nice tool to visualize how long it would take to start looking like I wanted and to see what quadrant of my mouth would hurt most each week so I could plan meals (iykyk).
The actual treatment process was pretty straightforward. The aligners arrived in numbered packages and, wearing them day and night, I changed sets weekly (they also provide an “only at night” option, but I opted for more wear and faster treatment. The night option would be great if you talked a lot for work and didn’t want to deal with the aligner lisp or excess spit production that happens when they’re in your mouth).
Byte also provides a whitening foam to use in your aligners, it’s minty and didn’t cause any sensitivity, but it didn’t really make any noticeable difference to my teeth. My treatment lasted 3 months and after that I’ve been wearing the provided retainer to avoid any backsliding. I started out wearing them like normal aligners, all the time except when eating or drinking, but have since transitioned to only wearing them at night which hasn’t seemed to be an issue. All around, I’m happy with my results and would definitely recommend byte to someone else with similar issues.
Helpful?Karis G.Texas2 years agoCrowdingSpacingI loved Byte! I had braces in high school but wasn’t great about wearing my retainer. My teeth had shifted some and I wanted to get them back to the way they were. I started my clear aligner journey during the lockdown phase of the pandemic so I was not able to go in to see a dentist. Byte made it SO easy- they sent trays to get molds of my teeth and even included the packaging and label so sending it back was a breeze. The mold was super easy to use. After a few weeks I was sent my trays! I also liked that the trays came with whitening spray so my teeth were getting straighter and whiter at the same time. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I do feel like an aligner system where in person dental visits are involved will probably give better results as the dentist can monitor your progress as you go. But no complaints and no regrets!
Helpful?Tracy L.Strawberry Plains, TN2 years agoCrowdingI chose to do Byte for the convenience of no dental visits and being able to do everything from home. Byte made it very easy and the trays were virtually invisible to others while wearing. It was an easy process that made the corrections to my teeth I wanted without the hassle. I am very happy with my results and would recommend. Easy to use, painless, and great success.
Helpful?Madeline M.Massachusetts2 years agoCrowdingSo I decided to get aligners in the first place because I have a crowding issue. I did some research with reviews and price and found that Byte would be a good option. Sadly, I was disappointed with the results. My teeth weren’t that straight after. It seemed to only shift them a little bit. I wanted to make my teeth look more straight and less crowded looking. I don’t think it really helped too much. I notice a very small difference which is not worth it for the cost.
My retainer also didn’t even fit my teeth. So I asked them to help in remaking it and they said I’d have to do a whole new set of aligners! I definitely didn’t want to do that. When switching aligners I always got a headache. I did voice my concerns with the customer service team and they were very nice and tried to help but the only help they could provide was a whole new aligners set. I was over it so I just let it be.
My advice… this is not a great option for overcrowding issues. I’m upset I spent the money for barley any results. This still gets three stars because they were nice and responsive.
Helpful?Sarah H.Farmington, MO2 years agoCrowdingOverbiteI have previously had braces but didn’t wear my retainer regularly. My overbite was getting worse and I didn’t want to go through braces again. I decided to try Byte. It was an easy and affordable process. I was very pleased with the outcome. Now my teeth look just as good as they did when my braces came off!
Helpful?Li L.Rosemead, CA2 years agoCrowdingCrossbiteI chose Byte Me because the price was reasonable, and it came with the HyperByte which other companies don’t offer. The treatment time and 3D model results looks promising, website was easy to use and easy to get a hold of customer service.. The HyperByte works really well, especially on the first day after I switch the aligners. Customer service responds quickly to address my concerns. Now I am at 13 weeks, waiting for them to ship me week 16 -21 aligners.
Helpful?Colby L.Boston, MA2 years agoCrowdingSnaggletoothThough I am not finished with treatment, I can definitely see progress in my teeth straightening out. I had one snagged tooth on top that is fixed, the lower teeth are crowded and taking more time to move. That being said, I think the lower teeth look better than when I started. My complaint about byte is that they should tell you upfront you really need to wear aligners for around 2 weeks, not one. That gives you an unrealistic timeline for treatment. They also told me to move backwards in my treatment because one tooth wasn’t fitting right in the aligners when I really just needed refinements or a second set. This has significantly delayed progress. However, these are cheaper and better looking than braces so I am satisfied so far and optimistic that I’ll have a straighter smile when all is said and done.
Helpful?Kimberly PriceEaton Rapids2 years agoCrowdingSnaggletoothOverbiteWhen I first started byte I had a lot of overcrowding and a overbite. I chose byte because I was referred by another friend, she had expressed to me the easiness of using the aligners. The support team at byte really helped me get started and has been there with any questions just a text away so it’s super convenient. I love byte because they also sent me free aligner whitening foam that has made my teeth white in return. Definitely recommend this product especially cause I’ve had braces and this treatment was merely pain free!
Helpful?Joshua LandisAlbany, OR2 years agoCrowdingSpacingTooth GapI was impressed by the speed of the overall process. I thought the company did a great job of communicating, but I don’t think they were as quick as I expected a company to be. This is a great product for someone like me who had orthodontia when they were younger and then stopped wearing retainers and needed to get their smile back to perfect. I appreciated how easy the process was, and how much cheaper it was then going to a traditional orthodontist. The biggest thing to know is that there are many different companies that offer similar products and it’s hard to know which one is perfect for you I really liked byte and their Appliance to vibrate your teeth and make the retainers fit better.
Helpful?Lisa M.Seguin, Texas2 years agoCrowdingByte was great until they decided that I voided my warranty by getting a emergency root canal. At that point, they ended my treatment. I would not work with this company again.
Helpful?Rachelle S.Decatur, GA2 years agoCrowdingSnaggletoothOverbiteCrossbiteI decided to go with aligners after being unhappy with my smile for most of my life. Overall, it was an okay experience. I had to go through multiple refinements (3 in total) and customer service could be very slow to respond and send me what I needed, which significantly increased treatment time. I went with Byte because it was cheaper than Invisalign but I wish I had invested in that instead. My smile still isn’t exactly right but I didn’t want to increase the treatment time. A 3 month treatment.
Took nearly a year due to refinements and delays.
Helpful?Kamran B.Silverdale, WA2 years agoCrowdingCrossbiteI started my aligners a year ago and I have been very pleased with the process and the customer service Byte has offered me.
When I started them I thought I would be done by now but I have crooked and crowded teeth so I understand why it’s taking longer to get those stubborn teeth to move.
If I would have understood this experience for those teeth before I probably would have gone with regular braces as the pressure needed to move these stubborn teeth quicker just doesn’t come with aligners.
I have grown to enjoy the aligners as I know they are making progress as I wear them. They are simple to use, simple to clean and simple to change out.
If you are looking for something simple to make a big change to the look of your smile aligners are the way to go.
Helpful?Renee K.Machesney Park, IL1 year agoCrowdingSnaggletoothMy teeth were very crowded and some were pushed far forward and far backward. I didn’t want traditional braces at my age and thought the aligners would be less noticeable. I chose Byte because they were cheaper but also provided a guarantee backing their product. My treatment was predicted to be about 6 months but it will end up being about two years, which is frustrating. Customer service has been painful to deal with, however my teeth are better aligned and I am overall happy with my decision. Customer service is best when you email and then call. They have the ability to find your email while on the phone if you need them to view photos.
Helpful?Kristin M.Blue Bell , PA2 years agoCrowdingI had braces as a teenager but I guess due to 3 pregnancies,Not wearing retainers and lack of dentist visits (I was scared!) my bottom teeth became very crowded. One of my teeth even moved back so far it looked like it could be a second row. One of my top teeth right in the front twisted and turned. My teeth were very embarrassing, I hated smiling.
I requested a kit from byte and it came overnight! The plastic pieces for my mouth were huge and I messed up one mold but the rest were enough to approve me as a candidate. The customer service person I dealt with thru that process + setting up payment was very nice and responsive. Once my aligners came they were easy to use, not too much pain. Trying to communicate with customer service was very hard, usually taking about a week for a reply.
At one point I wasn’t tracking and the process of getting new aligners was actually easier and quicker than I had expected. I started in march 2021 and it’s now December 2021. I was originally quoted 4 months but I’m ok with the fact that it’s taking longer. Rushing the process seems scary!! I am on my last tray for the top and 3 more to go on the bottom. Overall I am estatic with the results!!! But I still am not done! I would definitely recommend byte to other people with mild corrections with the understanding that you might not have the best communication from the company.
Helpful?Ella R.Cleveland, OH2 years agoCrowdingSpacingI finally decided I was done having crooked teeth and wanted to be happier with my smile. I chose Byte because they were offering 5 years of retainers after successfully completing their aligner process for free. They sent me an at home impression kit which was easy to use. I also took multiple pictures for their team. I first got 13 sets. I then contacted them at week 13 in which they recommended 8 more weeks of treatment for optimal treatment of my crooked front tooth and one on the bottom row as well. Their treatment also comes with teeth whitening solution to place on the aligners before putting them in. Customer service has been amazing and very quick to reply. I have another month or so left and I cannot wait to see the end result. I definitely recommend this company as their pricing is great for the product and they offer a payment plan.
Helpful?Drina S.USA2 years agoCrowdingSnaggletoothUnderbiteCrossbiteI have always been very self conscious of my smile. I was a cheerleader in high school and that required smiling big for hours a day in-front of large crowds. I always felt like people were staring at my teeth. I choose byte because they were very affordable and less noticeable than braces. They were pretty uncomfortable, but I’m sure it was because of how crooked my teeth were. They definitely straightened my teeth but I will say I have a little bit of an underbite now. A bonus of the aligners was that I lost weight due to not being able to eat with them in. I love my results and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to fix their teeth!!
Helpful?Isabella B.Ravena2 years agoCrowdingOverbiteMidlineI was hoping to help straighten my teeth without needing regular braces since I am going into my mid 20’s and would prefer a better suited option for my lifestyle. Byte has helped me gain better confidence in my smile while having all the freedom that I utilize on a daily basis. It was not an easy process but it was definitely worth it, especially considering the price. The customer support was phenomenal, they support your every step of the way and they keep in touch with you to keep track of your progress in case any adjustments need to be made. For someone who is looking for affordable solutions for teeth straightening without insurance, this is definitely the way to go!
Helpful?Dallas K.Cleveland, TN2 years agoCrowdingI’ll start by saying my reason for using aligners was just minor crowding. In researching aligner options I considered a lot of brands, I ended up going with Byte (TLDR: it was a disappointment. Don’t take the cheap route with orthodontics). To be honest Byte had the prettiest packaging and that reeled me in along with the price. I was extremely skeptical about the DIY orthodontics but decided it was worth a shot. I received my impression kit in April 2021 and got right to it. Taking my own impressions was terrible, gross, and also painful due to the trays being way too big for my mouth.
Fast forward, I received my aligners and hyperbite about 4 weeks later. I was hopeful. It took about 2 weeks to adjust to having aligners in my mouth, they were quite painful and destroyed my gums (get a fine grit file, Byte doesn’t care to make sure they’re not sharp). After the first two weeks it was a smooth process, I wore the aligners and used the hyperbite as prescribed. My treatment was set to be finished in august. August came and I reached the last aligner, but my teeth had hardly moved. They looked virtually the same as day 1. I reached out to Byte about my concern and received a response about a week later. They requested that I take pictures of my teeth in my current aligners and send them in. I did.
A week later I get another response requesting that I try on all of my aligners, take pictures of each set, and send those in (was quite inconvenient). A week later, another response saying they will send out another impression kit. I take more impressions, send those in and wait two weeks for a doctor to review them. Then I’m informed that they’re sending out refinement aligners, I get them about 3 weeks later (a 7 week process between informing byte of the issue and receiving the refinements). I am now completely done with my refinement aligners for my bottom teeth and guess what? More refinements are needed, hardly any change again. Starting that 7 week process once again.
Keep in mind my crowding was minor, and they couldn’t even get that right. If I could go back in time I would 1000% spend the extra money and do Invisalign and have it done right under the direct supervision of an Orthodontist. Luckily my teeth haven’t been damaged at all, but that’s also a risk you take with the DIY companies (read your contract). Don’t go the cheap route, invest in quality care.
My before photo was day 1 of aligners, my progress is where I am now. See much of a difference? Me neither, other than my purse being a bit lighter.
Helpful?Jenna P.New York, New York1 year agoCrowdingOverbiteYears back I had braces, but like most teenagers, I was careless and lost the retainer I was instructed to wear daily at night to maintain the corrections. I had some crowding in my bottom teeth and an overbite in my top teeth, so I decided to look into nighttime aligner options. A couple of influencers I follow on Instagram we’re promoting byte and advertising a promo code to get started, so I gave it a try. The customer service is good, and when my first impression set was unsuccessful because the kit was too large, they immediately sent me a new kit to redo my impressions at no cost. However, I am on step 14/15 of my treatment and still not seeing the results I would like, but I am hopeful that they will send some additional aligners to continue my treatment. Overall I would give it a 3.5/5 stars, the packaging and customer service were great, but to be on step 14/15 and still see the crookedness of my bottom teeth is a bit discouraging. I would recommend to a friend for the most part.
Helpful?Sarah D.Arlington, VA1 year agoCrowdingUnderbiteUsing the Byte aligners was super easy! Doing the impressions was a little gross, but I feel like it would’ve been the same doing them in an orthodontists office. I liked that they were sent to me, and that the whole system was easy to use! My confidence has gone up so much since completing treatment, and my smile looks so much better. My dentist even said Byte did a good job!
Helpful?Shayla H.Clinton, UT1 year agoCrowdingOverbiteOverjetI chose Byte at Night to fit my schedule and keep my aligner wear more discreet. I had some crowding issues as my teeth shifted with age, and my teeth didn’t line up quite right when I bit down. The impression kit was super simple, and the aligners came quickly. The first set is a little uncomfortable, but it gets way better with use! Customer service is really nice, but usually takes a long time to respond. If you require continuation aligners, it takes FOREVER to have them made and shipped, so your treatment is kind of on a pause while you wait for the next aligners.
Helpful?Sarah G.Ozark MO2 years agoCrowdingOverbiteByte was an easy process from start to finish. They have an amazing, life long guarantee. The aligners are very tight fitting. It can often feel like you are going to pull your teeth out when you are trying to take them out, initially. Just use the tool and you’ll get the hang of it. Their customer service team is always ready to help with any questions you may have. I will state that it does take a few weeks for you to get your aligners after you are approved for treatment.
