WonderSmile: Quality Treatment At a Fair Price

WonderSmile logo

£2,250

Wondersmile scores 4.2/5 overall based on our five review criteria (effectiveness, affordability, convenience, appearance, and customer support), making them our fifth-highest rated home teeth alignment service in the U.K.

If you want an orthodontist designing your treatment and live near one of their clinics, WonderSmile could be the right fit for you. Their photo check-ins ensure reliable results, and they’re the only home aligner company that offers discounts for single arch treatment.

WonderSmile vs. Straight Teeth Direct: Our #1-Ranked Service

We think WonderSmile is a reliable treatment option, but if you’re looking for the best value overall, Straight Teeth Direct is difficult to beat. Straight Teeth Direct’s one-time price includes every aligner you’ll need to make your smile match their treatment preview (including refinements), and their innovative app provides consistent remote monitoring and access to customer service.

What Is WonderSmile?

Boasting numerous locations across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the U.K., Wondersmile has an extensive international reach. They ship personalized, Invisalign-esque aligners directly to your doorstep, which lets you shift your teeth from home. These aligners are invisible and perfectly match the contours of your teeth, so you can wear them out confidently in public. The best part? After your initial teeth scan appointment, Wondersmile doesn’t require any office visits. Instead, a licensed orthodontist will design and monitor your treatment remotely.

Wondersmile is part of a crop of new home aligner services like SmileDirectClub and Straight Teeth Direct, so they’re not the only option out there. However, their flexible wear schedules and orthodontist-directed care, along with their extensive satisfaction guarantees, make them a popular choice.

WonderSmile has attempted to separate themselves from the pack by offering more flexible services, including various physical locations, different payment plans, and nighttime-only treatment.

Like other home-based clear aligner products, WonderSmile is primarily a cosmetic treatment. Their aligners are designed specifically to correct mild-to-moderate cases of spacing and crowding issues, along with some minor bite conditions. If your case is severe, you may see better results from a treatment plan managed in-person by a dentist, like braces or Invisalign.

How Does WonderSmile Work?

WonderSmile’s orthodontists need to see your teeth before they can move them, so you’ll need to get a teeth scan or complete one of their impression kits. WonderSmile has multiple clinics in the U.K., including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, and more. Schedule an appointment with the clinic nearest you to get started.

During this 15-minute visit, a “WonderSmile Consultant” will perform an intraoral scan of your teeth, then send it off to the dental team for analysis. If you don’t live near any of their clinics, or you prefer to make molds of your own teeth, you can also use WonderSmile’s at-home impression kit.

Wondersmile’s orthodontic team will evaluate your digital teeth images and use them to determine whether you’re a good candidate for treatment. If so, they’ll create a digital preview showing how your teeth will move during treatment.

If everything looks good, let them know and they’ll begin production on your aligners. But if you have reservations, there’s no obligation to continue. Throughout your treatment, you’ll post images of your teeth so that the orthodontic team can evaluate your progress and adjust your treatment (if necessary).

WonderSmile Pros & Cons

WonderSmile offers great service and effective treatment, but no company is perfect. Each has its own pros and cons. We’ve scoured the Internet, compiling research on WonderSmile, and we’ve used it to summarize their advantages and drawbacks right here:

WonderSmile Pros

  • Wondersmile’s clinical team consists solely of orthodontists, the industry’s most specialized professionals. Treatment still isn’t as intensive as in-person care, but it’s reassuring to know that you’ll have highly knowledgeable experts designing your treatment.
  • Wondersmile’s NightClear treatment is a convenient option for anyone hesitant about wearing aligners for 22+ hours per day. It only requires ten hours of overnight wear.
  • There are numerous locations across the U.K. where you can get your teeth scanned, which is easier than using an impression kit.
  • If your crowding or spacing condition is confined to teeth on only one arch (top or bottom), you can get aligners for just that arch, and Wondersmile will reduce your price by £250.
  • Their Lifetime Guarantee will provide refinements for free, as long as you continue replacing and wearing your retainers as directed.
  • With hundreds of customer reviews available online, and nearly universal acclaim for their services, it’s clear that the vast majority of Wondersmile customers are satisfied with their alignment services.

WonderSmile Cons

  • At £2,250, Wondersmile’s price is one of the highest for at-home aligner treatment — significantly higher than many of its competitors.
  • Unlike other home aligner companies, WonderSmile doesn’t include a set of aftercare retainers in the cost of your treatment, so you’ll need to purchase them separately for £60.
  • Unlike in-office options, which can correct a wide range of severe misalignments, Wondersmile can only treat mild and moderate cases of crowding and spacing.

So, Do the Pros Outweigh the Cons?

We think so! Wondersmile offers premium-quality care, convenient treatment, and a lifetime warranty. Anyone looking for an orthodontist-designed treatment and flexible financing will find them with Wondersmile.

Effectiveness

It’s natural to have questions about how well home aligner treatment works. After all, you don’t have face-to-face care from an orthodontist every month. But WonderSmile provides trustworthy and effective treatment.

Generally, home aligners are only effective for mild and moderate cases of crowding and spacing, and WonderSmile is no different. If you have a more severe condition, like a jaw misalignment, you’re probably better off going with an in-office treatment like Invisalign. But if you’re a good candidate for WonderSmile, you’ll receive a full treatment preview and orthodontist-designed care.

To ensure patient safety and great results, Wondersmile uses a team of orthodontists to create your treatment plan.

If you were going to visit an in-person dentist or orthodontist, you would probably do some research beforehand because the person in charge of your dental health is important.

WonderSmile understands this, which is why all of their treatment plans are designed with the assistance of orthodontists. Compared to general dentists, orthodontists have more specialized training in the art of moving teeth. They have the technical know-how and experience to evaluate your face, neck, jaw, and teeth, then develop an effective solution. Dentists are definitely qualified individuals, but they don’t have the same level of specialization.

By requiring regular photo check-ins, WonderSmile ensures that your treatment will stay on track.

Every month throughout your treatment, you’ll send photos of your teeth to WonderSmile’s dental team. This way, they can make sure that your teeth are moving as expected and adjust your timeline if necessary. Plus, it will give you the peace of mind that licensed professionals are with you every step of the way.

This oversight isn’t as robust as Invisalign’s in-person office visits, but it still allows Wondersmile’s orthodontists to monitor your progress and watch for any potential problems. Straight Teeth Direct and PlusDent have similar monitoring procedures, which help to keep your treatment on track and answer any questions you might have as you go along.

It’s unclear who manufactures WonderSmile aligners.

Product and material quality are just as important as the person directing your treatment. Even a perfect treatment plan can fall short if the products are faulty or ineffective. This is why some home aligner companies promote their partnerships with established, widely trusted manufacturers. However, we couldn’t find who produces Wondersmile’s products — they might outsource their production, or they might create them in-house.

Because Wondersmile doesn’t reveal where and how they manufacture their aligners, it’s hard to evaluate their product quality. The results we’ve seen in online reviews would suggest that they have consistent and reliable manufacturing practices, but we can’t say for sure.

WonderSmile aligners are cut straight across (rather than trimmed to match the gumline), making them more powerful.

Some companies trim their aligners to match your gum line while others, like WonderSmile, cut them straight across the top.

A straight cut might seem like a drawback, but in some ways, it’s actually an advantage. Yes, straight-cut aligners are slightly more noticeable than scalloped ones. But they can also use the gums as an anchor to apply up to four times more force. If you want the most effective aligners, go with a company that cuts aligners straight across rather than matching the gum line.

The accuracy of in-person teeth scans and the expertise of their dental team inspires confidence in WonderSmile’s effectiveness, although it would still be nice to know who produces their aligners.

Affordability

Like many others, you may have stumbled upon WonderSmile while looking for a cheaper alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment. Home aligners present a significantly more affordable option to Invisalign or braces, which can cost up to £5,000.

Among other home aligner companies, however, Wondersmile’s prices are fairly high — although they have an interest-free payment plan to help make those prices more accessible.

You’ll pay £2,250 for standard WonderSmile treatment, or £2,250 for their NightClear plan.

This sticker price covers the cost of your teeth scan, treatment plan, clear aligners, and monthly oversight. It does not, however, cover your aftercare retainers, which you’ll need to purchase separately for £60.

We should also note that WonderSmile will only cover the cost of your teeth scan or impression kit if you end up purchasing aligners. They will simply take it out of your total treatment price. If you decide against purchasing their aligners, WonderSmile won’t refund the £40 fee for your in-office scan or the £25 fee for your impression kit (unless they determine you’re not a candidate for treatment).

Wondersmile offers interest-free financing plans that can make their price more manageable.

Don’t have a spare £2,250 lying around? Not many do. But don’t worry, Wondersmile offers a financing plan called WonderPay to make their treatment more accessible.

The even better news is that WonderPay is interest free, so you’ll pay the same amount whether you pay one lump sum or spread it out. You’ll make a minimum down payment of £225, then monthly payments of at least £162.50. If you opt for the NightClear treatment instead, it’s at least £229 upfront followed by minimum monthly payments of £165.50. These plans require a soft credit check to qualify, so they’re not available to everyone.

If you only need treatment on one arch, you’ll get a discount.

Some people only have crowding/spacing in their top or bottom teeth. If WonderSmile determines that you only need treatment for one arch (and it won’t affect your bite), you’ll get £250 off your treatment. This is only possible for a small number of cases, but it’s still a possibility, and £250 is a significant discount.

Wondersmile’s sticker price is more expensive than most competitors, but their financing plans can make it more manageable. And even though they’re far from the most budget-friendly at-home option, Wondersmile is still more affordable than in-office treatments.

Convenience

Life is busy. Sometimes trying to fit another thing into a packed schedule can be downright frustrating. That’s part of what makes home aligners so appealing. Unlike Invisalign and other in-office options, they don’t require any office visits. Instead, you’ll administer your entire treatment from home.

After your initial teeth scan, you won’t have to step foot in a dentist or orthodontist’s office for your entire Wondersmile treatment. And you’ll likely see your final results in 6–9 months, compared to Invisalign’s 12-month average timeline and the 18 months that braces typically require.

When it comes to convenience, Wondersmile steals the show from both braces and Invisalign. Even when compared to other home aligner companies, they’re a highly convenient option.

Wondersmile clinics make it super easy to get your treatment started, and they have an impression kit option too.

To begin your Wondersmile alignment, you can either visit one of their retail locations for a professional teeth scan, or you can make molds of your own teeth at home using their impression kits. Teeth scans are easier and faster than impression kits (since customers sometimes find it difficult to make accurate impressions).

If you live near a city, great! Pop into the nearest office location for a scan. But if you’re not near an office, you’ll need to travel to find one or use an impression kit.

Currently, Wondersmile has ten clinics across London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leicester, and Manchester, plus one in Glasgow. Live elsewhere? Wondersmile might not be the most convenient choice.

Photo check-ins improve Wondersmile’s effectiveness but take a few extra steps.

As we mentioned earlier, you’ll need to send photos of your teeth to Wondersmile’s dental and orthodontic team each month so that they can monitor your progress. This helps keep your treatment on track, but it also requires a little more work on your end. That said, taking and sending a few photos each month is a small price to pay for more reliable treatment, so it’s worth it.

Plus, it gives you regular oversight without the hassle of scheduling and attending office visits every few weeks, like you would with in-office options. Just make sure you don’t forget!

Start to finish, treatment takes 6–9 months on average.

From the day you insert your first aligner until you see your ideal smile in the mirror will be around six months. And if you choose the NightClear option, it’s more like nine. Of course, this assumes that you follow your treatment plan diligently and wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day (or ten hours per night for NightClear).

A six-month timeline is much shorter than hands-on alternatives like Invisalign, which usually take 12–18 (because they often treat more complicated cases), although it’s fairly average for home aligners treatment.

WonderSmile’s NightClear Aligners let you wear your aligners only at night.

In-office providers and some at-home services require that you wear your aligners for 22+ hours per day. But Wondersmile gives you another option. Their NightClear Aligners only require ten hours of overnight wear, so you won’t need to worry about removing and replacing them to eat and drink. Since it involves fewer hours of daily wear, this plan takes longer overall, but if you’d rather avoid wearing your aligners to work, school, or anywhere else, it might be worth it.

Wondersmile’s retail locations, streamlined oversight, and nighttime-only option make them more convenient than both in-office alternatives and their at-home peers.

Appearance

For teeth straightening treatments, most adults agree: the less visible, the better. They rarely want to attend business meetings, dates, or special occasions sporting visible metal brackets. Clear aligner products pride themselves on being far more discreet than braces. For this reason, all clear aligners tend to excel aesthetically, and Wondersmile is no exception.

But while they’re all made from transparent, BPA-free plastic, variations in materials manufacturing processes cause each brand to look slightly different. Which aligners look best depends on your specific tastes and preferences.

Wondersmile’s aligners are smooth and reflective.

Smooth, shiny aligners don’t really match the natural surfaces of your teeth. Your teeth are porous and appear matte, not completely smooth and shiny. So, Wondersmile’s aligners can look artificially reflective. But everyone has a different style and some people actually like the way these shiny aligners make their teeth “gleam.”

Wondersmile cuts their aligners straight across the top rather than trimming them to match your gum line.

When you put them in, you’ll notice that there’s a tiny overlap with your gums, which people could potentially notice in close quarters. But there’s a good reason for this design. Straight-cut aligners can use your gums as anchors to help exert more force on your teeth.

“Scalloped” aligners that match your gum line might be less visible, but they can also be slightly less effective.

Wondersmile aligners cannot incorporate attachments, maintaining their low profile.

One reason Invisalign and other in-office aligners can treat such severe misalignments is because they can incorporate attachments like elastics or buttons that they affix to your teeth. These attachments make them a lot more powerful, but also more visible.

Dentists can only place attachments during office visits, so home aligners like Wondersmile can’t use them. But that also means there are no extra bumps or hardware on your teeth.

You’ll want to take out your aligners before eating & drinking to avoid stains.

All clear aligners are susceptible to food and beverage stains — that’s why it’s important to remove them before eating or drinking anything besides water. Our current understanding is that Wondersmile aligners are reasonably stain-resistant, although we certainly wouldn’t recommend drinking coffee, red wine, or other dark liquids while wearing them.

Wondersmile’s smooth, straight-cut aligners are much more discreet than braces, but might be slightly more visible than aligners from other companies.

Customer Experience

Orthodontic treatment is expensive, and you only have one set of teeth. It’s important to feel completely confident that your treatment provider will treat you right and have your back if anything goes wrong.

In-person allows for personalized care and robust oversight, all tailored to your specific smile goals. That’s more difficult to achieve with a fully remote treatment, but Wondersmile has done an admirable job providing a satisfactory customer experience.

Wondersmile’s customer service is typically prompt and helpful, and they have an outstanding reputation for customer satisfaction.

If you have a question or concern, you can call or email Wondersmile’s support team, who is available from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. They will also respond to customers on social media. But unlike other at-home options, they don’t have a mobile app or webchat feature.

A large majority of Wondersmile’s online reviews are from satisfied customers who had wonderful customer service experiences, particularly at their in-person scanning clinics. Overall, they have one of the best reputations in this industry for customer feedback. It’s difficult to find any more than a few isolated negative reviews.

Wondersmile’s orthodontic team will evaluate your smile on a regular basis.

During your treatment, you’ll submit monthly photos of your teeth for review. But these don’t just go into a digital file somewhere — Wondersmile’s orthodontists review them to make sure that your teeth are moving as planned. This way, they can identify and address potential problems before they escalate enough to derail your treatment.

Wondersmile will provide refinements if you’re unhappy with your results, and they put a lifetime guarantee on your new smile.

Even after reading positive online reviews, you might have that nagging thought at the back of your mind: what if it doesn’t work? It’s a common concern, but one that Wondersmile addresses with an extensive warranty.

If you’re not a good candidate for treatment, they’ll refund your teeth scan fee, and if you receive broken or faulty products, they’ll refund those as well. You can also receive a full refund within 30 days of getting your aligners if you change your mind right away.

Sometimes teeth just don’t move as expected, and if you don’t achieve the smile shown in your initial treatment preview by the end of your treatment, Wondersmile will provide refinement aligners to finish the job. This is assuming that you followed your wear instructions carefully and completed all your required photo check-ins.

Wondersmile keeps protecting your smile, even after you’ve finished your treatment. Their Lifetime Guarantee will provide new aligners if your teeth ever shift out of place, as long as you purchase new retainers at least once every six months and wear them as directed.

Even though they can’t match the personalization of in-office care, Wondersmile’s support team has received excellent reviews, and their lifetime warranty will preserve your new smile forever.

What Are WonderSmile Customers Saying?

When we review a company like WonderSmile, we start by digging through customer reviews to understand common issues and concerns.

There are hundreds of Wondersmile customer reviews available online, and nearly all of them are positive. Customers are often pleased with their results and smile transformations, as well as Wondersmile’s product quality and teeth scan process. There are very few negative reviews available, and the issues they report seem like isolated incidents.

WonderSmile vs. Invisalign

Wondersmile’s orthodontist-assisted treatment and regular oversight go a long way, but they still can’t match the effectiveness of Invisalign and other in-office treatments. Invisalign requires regular office visits, during which a dentist or orthodontist can adjust your aligner plan and implement attachments (like buttons and elastics) that induce more powerful tooth and jaw movements.

But this added effectiveness comes at a higher price, and Invisalign customers often pay thousands more than they would for home aligners. Still, if you have a bite misalignment or more severe crowding or spacing, Invisalign might be a better option.

WonderSmile vs. Other Home Aligners

While WonderSmile is a great clear aligner company, there are other at-home and in-office options to consider. Invisalign is the primary in-office option, and while it’s more expensive than home aligners, it allows dentists to add special appliances and achieve more advanced teeth movements. There are also several other home aligner options worth exploring, especially if you want the shortest treatment time or a quick treatment start.

WonderSmile vs. Straight Teeth Direct

Straight Teeth Direct prides themselves on being at the forefront of orthodontic technology. Like Wondersmile, they provide oversight throughout treatment, but they do it with an app that also provides easy access to their customer support team. This alone helps to ensure satisfying results, but Straight Teeth Direct goes a step further by including any necessary refinements (extra aligners) for free if your smile isn’t where you expected by the end of treatment. Plus, their £1,350 sticker price is much more affordable than Wondersmile’s.

Get to know Straight Teeth Direct by reading our in-depth review.

WonderSmile vs. Straight My Teeth

Straight My Teeth is the most affordable company in the home aligner market. Their starting price is just £999, and they offer occasional discounts that can drop it as low as £699. Their process uses dentists, orthodontists, and dental technicians, and they don’t provide any remote oversight, but if you’re looking for great value, Straight My Teeth is the best option.

Take a look at our complete Straight My Teeth review for more info.

Wondersmile vs. PlusDent

PlusDent boasts some of the same advantages as Wondersmile. They both monitor your treatment remotely and provide in-person teeth scans to take the place of the impression kit. PlusDent has more practices, but they also require that you visit one to begin your treatment — they don’t sell at-home kits. This provides a nice personal touch, but it also makes it difficult if you don’t live near one of their 30 UK locations.

WonderSmile vs. SmileDirectClub

SmileDirectClub stands out as the largest and most popular at-home clear aligner brand. Compared to Wondersmile, they have a much longer track record of successful smile transformations (more than 1.5 million so far!) and much lower prices (£1,539). SmileDirectClub and Wondersmile both have nighttime treatment options and accessible financing options, making them both highly convenient services.

Summary - Is WonderSmile Right For You?

Out of the four home-based clear aligner products we reviewed, we rank WonderSmile #5 overall. If you feel more comfortable knowing an orthodontist takes part in your care and you’re intrigued by nighttime-only treatment, WonderSmile could be a great option.

Our #1 recommended provider, Straight Teeth Direct, also provides consistent remote oversight throughout treatment, plus has an unbeatable satisfaction guarantee. Both are excellent options, but only you can decide on the best fit for your smile, your timeline, and your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does WonderSmile offer discounts?

Not frequently, but every so often you can catch a sale. If you sign up for Wondersmile’s emails, they’ll send occasional deals for £100 – £200 off your aligners. They also have a referral program that will award you £100 if your friend purchases aligners. Additionally, you can sometimes find coupons on third-party websites for discounts on aligners and other products (although you should confirm that a site is reliable before you use their coupons).

Can WonderSmile correct my condition?

It depends. Wondersmile is extremely effective in treating mild and moderate cases of crowding and spacing, but it might not be able to correct jaw misalignments like overbite, underbite, crossbite, etc. The only way to know for sure is to visit a Wondersmile Clinic or submit an impression kit.

What about Invisalign?

The clear aligner originator has its own set of unique benefits, most notably in-person care. During regular face-to-face checkups, your dentist or orthodontist can make adjustments to your treatment and add attachments that allow Invisalign to treat a wider scope of cases. WonderSmile is faster and less expensive, but Invisalign is a great option if your condition is severe or you’d prefer to meet with your dentist in person.

How much will I end up paying?

Even though Wondersmile’s sticker price is £2,250 (or £2,290 for NightClear), there are numerous factors that can influence cost, including discounts, financing, insurance, refinements, and more. In most cases, you won’t end up paying exactly £2,250/£2,290, but it will likely be close.

How do I get started?

Before anything else, WonderSmile’s orthodontists need to take a look at your teeth, so you’ll need to visit one of their clinics for a teeth scan or complete a home impression kit.

They’ll use these molds or digital images to determine if you’re a good candidate and craft your entire treatment plan. Teeth scans cost £40 and impression kits cost £25, but Wondersmile will take that payment out of your full aligner price if you proceed with treatment.

How long will it take?

The average WonderSmile daytime treatment lasts around six months, and NightClear treatment lasts around nine, but each case is unique. Quick fixes might be shorter and more complicated conditions may take longer. It all depends on your condition’s severity and how strictly you adhere to your wear schedule.

After WonderSmile’s orthodontists and dentists review your teeth scans, they’ll send you a treatment plan that estimates how long it will take.

What is the cheapest home aligner service?

Home aligner companies have drastically reduced the cost of teeth-straightening service, but that doesn’t mean they fit perfectly in every budget. If you’re a cost-conscious shopper, check out Straight My Teeth. Their £999 sticker price is hundreds cheaper than the competition, including WonderSmile. Our full Straight My Teeth review has more info.

What is the most effective clear aligner company?

It’s tough to beat the power and versatility of in-office options like Invisalign, ClearCorrect, SureSmile, and 3M Clarity Aligners. They can all treat severe misalignments and even bite issues.

Do clear aligners hurt?

When you switch to a new aligner set every two weeks, you might experience some discomfort for the first day or two, but after that, you’ll hardly notice them.

Is home aligner treatment safe?

Yes! While administering treatment from home might seem daunting, the process is very safe. Home aligner companies use state-licensed dentists and orthodontists to create your treatment plan and design your aligners. Even though you won’t meet with them in-person, each company offers robust customer support services if something doesn’t feel quite right.

Plus, WonderSmile’s routine photo check-ins mean that your remote orthodontist can regularly review your case and address issues that arise.
